This class will lead you through specific scenarios you might encounter as you observe play or work a shift as a DM at the Citadel. As with the last Case Scenarios class, the style of instruction will be very different from any other DM training in the Bay Area- we will have less than ten minutes of lecture before getting down to actually SHOWING you scenarios and letting class participants troubleshoot these situations.

You are welcome to attend even if you are not interested in volunteering as a DM, as this class will provide useful information on conducting a safe scene and "fitting in" in the public dungeon environment, as well as orientation to the SF Citadel rules and BDSM community "norms."

Bi Visibility Question

(Taken from the post here concerning Bi Visibility politics and Prop 8):

"...they usually speak of "gay and lesbian" couples.

Excluding bisexuals wasn't a mere oversight ~ a decision was made to
completely avoid "same-sex" to make the campaign more palatable to
straight swing voters."

I must be missing something, if "they usually speak of 'gay and lesbian couples,' aren't they doing the opposite of "completely avoiding 'same sex?'"

Also, is there really an issue about bisexuals being allowed to marry? If a bisexual person from California wants to marry someone of the opposite gender, s/he can. If a bisexual person from California wants to marry someone of the same gender, s/he can.

Are we moving toward activism for overlapping marriages so that bisexual people can simultaneously be married to people of both genders?

If anyone is going to the event tonight or has close ties with Bi Visibility, I'd love to hear a bit more about your perspective/s.

Pride Parade

I'd just like to say how awesome it was to be with my fellow SOJ folks yesterday at the LGBT Pride parade. We attracted a lot of folks by passing out cards, answering questions, as well as through our awesome group of demo participants. It was really cool watching the crowd react to our skilled Tops as they spanked, flogged, single-tailed, and tied up willing participants.

Thank you so much to the Outreach team for organizing all this and for being at the booth pretty much the entire day. Thank you to my fellow booth staff for helping keep the booth alive and kickin' (wow, that sounded dated) by passing out cards and answering questions for folks, and thanks to everyone for making my first Pride with SOJ an awesome experience. I would without a doubt like to help out with this again next year.

For many, age play is the ultimate expression of trust, nurturing and vulnerability. As with anything in BDSM, there is no right way and no wrong way, and there are as many different styles of age play as there are people doing it! Age play can be an exciting addition to your power dynamic, a fun role play activity for an evening or play party, or an exploration of your inner child and innocence. It can also present unique and complex challenges.

In this class we will cover more advanced topics of interest to people who have been living or are looking to live an age play lifestyle. Topics of discussion will be augmented with practical exercises that can give Bigs and littles the tools they need to succeed in understanding themselves and their age play dynamic. Some of the areas we will cover are:

~Navigating "little space" – how to get in it, how to get out of it, and how to move between the two comfortably
~ Reconciling your D/s dynamic with your age play dynamic
~Tips for new Bigs, tips for new littles and avoiding common age play pitfalls
~Psychological considerations and potential ramifications in age play
~Age play vs. age regression

Phew, we did it! Super hugs to those of you with the strong backs, tireless
smiles, and fooood (thank you sustenance goddesses). That was a superb
weekend of kinky warriors that really made an awesome effort in taking time
to ensure their dungeon Edges and smOdyssey were all moved. We've got lots
of folks that are now dirty inside AND out. And are actively working to
keep that theme going. THANK YOU to each and every person that shared their
time with us. This will be a continued effort and we need your help in
keeping momentum and energy at a high level: if you cannot come out,
encourage someone whom can!

I've updated the next weeks calendar for times and day, but do be sure to
check or at least call us if there is any doubt. Often we start earlier or
end later than expected.

This weeks tasks:

** The contractor will be in to start creating walls: we're extending the
social area, creating some new doorways, and still have at least two walls
to demo. So bring strong arms with a sledge hammer, 2x4x8 stud material and
your tool belt, or cookies and milk.

** We will also be taking all of the recycling off from the old space and
some last tiny runs of 'stuff' if you have a pick-up truck.

** We will be strapping in new insulation as well and would be more than
THRILLED to have donations in that area!! And we need someone comfy on a
step ladder to get through drop ceiling and pull down fallen insulation.

** We do still need some drop ceiling tile panels cut if you are able to
help with that.

** There is a lot of debris and such that needs to be taken down from above
the hard ceiling areas. Are you comfortable with heights and walking on
rafters?

** We are still seeking dry wall purchasing suggestions. This is an area
that is really going to cost us. Do you know someone that knows someone
that might be able to get a discount!?

** We will begin priming some of the walls and them getting at least the
higher areas painted as we finish building below. Are you familiar with a
paint sprayer? Are you able to tape off windows and framing?

** We have lots and lots and lots and ... (well, you get the point) ...

Access to Building Supplies

The new space is going to need a lot of stuff.

Do you have access to a discount at Home Depot, Lowe's, OSH, or any other
building supply stores?

Can you donate flooring, paint, carpet, and/or other building supplies?

Please let us know how you can help. You can either e-mail me or post to the
group and I will make sure that Ali gets all of your information.

Skilled Labor

We are also still looking for skilled laborers.

We would like to put together a list of people who are skilled laborers, so that we can contact
you when we need your specific help.

So if you are or have access to an electrician, plumber, carpenter, painter, mason, drywall, flooring (I am sure I am forgetting some) could you please either e-mail me or post to the group, so I can add you to the list?

Another Great Class

For those who missed it, tonight (or last night for the more technical among us) was the much anticipated Edge Play 101 class taught by Deja Black. She had a very casual, fun, and informal style that I think was great for a class like this. Rather than spending most of the time explaining theory and talking about how things work and where things work best, most of the time was spent on demo scenes that featured some pretty damn courageous (and may I also say lucky) demo bottoms. Before that she had people shout out their ideas on what edge play is and then briefly talked about her thoughts on the subject and that was really it

The evening was filled with some of the more awesome demo scenes I've seen with my personal favorite being the job interview scene that featured among other things punching, cutting, face slapping, and spitting. I could see looks of both shock and envy throughout the night on the faces of those in the audience; my own included. I WANT HER TO DO THAT TO ME!!

Fun was clearly had by all...the audience, the demo bottoms, and I think most of all by the presenter. I think the class ended up concluding earlier than it was suppose to but considering the intensity of what had taken place, and early conclusion was definitely appropriate.

Thank you for the Program people for yet another great class and I look forward to another great one coming soon!

The Victorians are renowned for their refinement of the rules of polite society. From table manners to addressing one’s superiors, the Victorians had codes of conduct that influenced all aspects of daily life. Please join your hosts, the Locked Team at SF Citadel Friday July 18th for an exploration of Victorian etiquette and its applications in modern power exchange, protocol and service. Two hour Class: Lecture, Demonstration and Attendee Practice Workshop

Thursday, June 26th at SF Citadel
8:00pm - 10:00pm (Doors open at 7:30pm)
$5/Janus members and affiliates; $15/non-members (you do not need to be a member to attend!)

Dancing toys? Transform your style of playing with toys through beat and dance. The class emphasis is on using impact toys in a percussive, rhythmic and spiritual flow style.

Additionally, it will cover developing an intention prior to play, how to create energetic flow with various toys, energy building with your play partner, maintaining mindfulness, and safety.

The first hour consists of a lecture with handouts, and demonstrations with a demo-model. In the second hour the attendees will engage in hands-on play with each other. Ms. Heart and her demo-model will assist attendees, answer individual play questions, and give tips.

Wear comfortable clothes, bring a few impact toys, (i.e. paddles, straps, slappers, crops, and canes etc), pillow and a small blanket/yoga mat. The class is designed for those who are already playing and wish to learn new impact play styles and techniques.

ADA special services: Sign language (ASL) interpretation might be available by arrangement. Contact the organization directly at least two weeks before the workshop date and ask if they have a volunteer available. Bring your own coffee/water and snacks – Vending machine available.

Scene Name?

Well, it looks like I'll have to choose a scene name earlier than planned. Due to the unfortunate coincidence of my nickname being the same as the name of a certain someone causing problems for the community (see Citadel tribe for details). I need a scene name.

Soooooo......for those of you that have met me in person or those that have read my profile select which of the names below you feel would fit me best.
So far the three choices are:

1) Dilim (tagalog/Filipino for "dark" and also a joke about how I get during the summer)

2) Harry (...because it's a joke about my physical appearance when I take off my shirt)

3) Gabriel (Biblical reference)

If none really appeal to you, feel free to post/pm me your suggestion. I'll announce the new scene name at the next Janus munch. So far I've been told don't pick "Mike" (reason: too many already) or "Neil" (considering I'm learning to top), and "Bob" (heh, still laughing at the reason given)

Section is once again forming its local volunteer team to help conduct
outreach and recruit people for STD screening at the summer street fairs
(Dore Alley, Folsom Street Fair, Castro Street Fair).

To be a part of the team you will need to attend a brief sexual health
training and be willing to talk about sex, health and STD screening.

Most submissives and slaves are capable, strong and intelligent people with demanding lives and situations in which we are decision makers and have to be, dare I say Dominant! Whether we identify as purely submissive, as Dominant and in service by choice, or as switch, transitioning between our “take-charge” headspace and our submissive or service headspace can be challenging. How do we go from being at demanding jobs that require decision making to our Owners who require obedience? How do we spend one weekend in a Dominant role, and the next weekend in a service role? How do we manage being a slave when we have people in service to us? This is probably one of the most common struggles I’ve heard from submissives, salves, and the Dominants and Owners who keep them, and it’s the focus of the next Submissive Safe Space. Join us Tuesday June10th at Stormy Leather for discussion on this topic, and support from like minded people in service.

The purpose behind this group is to give submissives and slaves an opportunity to connect with other like minded people and to share ideas, information and resources in a supportive environment.

A $5 donation is requested, however, Stormy Leather has made the gracious offer to waive this fee to anyone who wants to make a purchase while you are at the group! This space is not intended to be a Dominant-bashing session. It is intended to allow its attendees to grow as submissives and slaves in whatever way they define that. It is intended to allow its attendees to ask questions about, and get support for, issues that they are struggling with as submissives and slaves. It is my belief that every person has something valuable to contribute, regardless of how long or to what extent they have been participating in the D/s lifestyle. Therefore, this group will be open to all genders, orientations, and expressions of submission. It is my intention that in this space we will all meet as equals, and that we will treat each other with respect and integrity.

As with most discussion groups, confidentiality agreements apply. Attendees will be asked not to discuss details of what happens in the group with anyone who was not there. I'm holding my 15th Annual Leather Tea Party at Baycon Saturday night, at the Hyatt Regency - Santa Clara Convention Center., starting at 8 p.m. Please feel free to come by - call me if you are interested, 650-483-1740, and I can give you the room number.

It will be an interesting mix of folks, mainly a social party - with actual tea, properly served - some kinky, some poly, some het, some bi, some gay, some curious, some just random Silicon Valley science fiction convention techno-geeks who think the theme of the party is cool. It's an entry point into the BDSM/poly/alternative universe for a lot of the people who attend this party, and I provide a lot of free informational brochures that people can use to explore things that they might be interested in. I usually have a demo of something safe around 11:30 p.m. (something that a clueless newbie couldn't hurt themselves doing if they tried to imitate it at home), close the doors for the demo, and then open them again afterward.

Many of you are used to my presentations on electrical play. But now I'm branching out. On Thursday evening, 12 June 2008 with doors opening at 7:30 PM and running to 10, I'll host the very first of what I'll call Unc's Colloquia. It'll be held at a popular and well-known venue in Santa Clara - just before San Jose Pride weekend. This idea of the series is to present to the community topics available nowhere else. I guarentee they'll be thought provoking, inspiraional, and cutting edge. Those attending will see something new and hopefully set their minds racing to find out more ...to experiment ...to discover ...to explore ...to experience ...to dicuss, debate, consider. These will be no 101-level flogging (or other such - important though they may be). These will definitely be 201 and 301 level classes.

For the first of these, I'm pleased to present qDot (a.k.a. Kyle) presenting on Teledildonics.

Coined by Ted Nelson, Teldildonics is the general field of using computer and other automation techniques to do sexual stimulations remotely. This includes using computers and the internet for sexual contact between two or more people ... or even between people and 'virtual' people or creatures. (Imagine being able to have sex with your partner from the other side of the country or 'real' sexual contact with Marilyn Monroe or Superman. Impossible? Not with teledildonics and some real clever programming and interfaces.)

But is this just a pipe dream? Just what is the state of the art? What Teledildonic devices, software, and services exist?

A survey of Teledildonics and where it stands is the subject of this presentation which launches the Unc's Colloquia series. The presenter, qDot (a.k.a. Kyle) is well qualified to speak on this subject. A software professional, his Slashdong.com website is a key resource in the field of Teledidonics and computer-based sexuality. His site includes the latest and most up-to-date information on the subject. He has also been invited to present papers on the subject at Arse-Electronika conferences.

This is a definitely not-to-miss event. Not only will qDot talk about Teledildonics, he'll also show some of the devices that are available today. There'll also be live demonstrations to further illustrate the techniques. qDot will also be available to answer your questions.

This class will only be available on a pre-registration basis. The fee is a nominal $15.00 per person. The class size is limited to only 30 attendees and is filling up fast. Please understand that this class will discuss mature subject matter and, therefore, is an ADULTS ONLY event. You must be at least 21 years of age or older. You'll also be required to sign a waiver prior to entering the class. These will be available at the door. Once you've registered, you'll receive an e-mail giving you the address of the class venue.

We're pleased to announce a Kinky Singles Dinner Mixer on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, sponsored by the Society of Janus. The evening starts at 7:30pm, with a no-host dinner in the back meeting room at Berkeley’s Au Coquelet.

Au Coquelet has a full dinner menu and have just obtained a liquor and offer a full range of wines, beers and spirits for your pleasure. And of course they have a wonderful dessert menu. This will be a vanilla dress code get-together.

SOJ’s Kinky Singles group is the *only* kinky singles organization that defines a single as not married and not in a relationship so it’s unlike any munch, play party, or singles mixer you've read about or attended in the past. We welcome people of all sexual and kink orientations. Come join us, to meet new friends and possibly partners who understand and share your interest in kink.
